Great read. Still loving Bailey's cafe but this was well written.

Gloria Naylor might be the best writer I’ve ever read. Her ability to set a scene and evoke emotion is unmatched. There are moments of joy, but plenty of pain. The story tells the fight for certainty, safety, and comfort in Black communities, communities that are ultimately condemned by the same people who created it. Brewster street was left to die but the lives of these characters prevail.
