Thoroughly enjoyable second book in the Age of Vampires series. There is plotting and intrigue, action, and the steam progresses a bit. I don’t think you could read this one on its own. You need to have read Eternal Reign first. If you haven’t read that one, stop reading this.
We return to the dual POV of Montana and Callie. Added in to this are Erik and Magnar’s POVs from the past, bringing the reader into the history of the vampires and slayers. These parts were interesting and shed some light on how things in the present came to be. The origins of the vampires is probably one of the more interesting origin stories I have read. Montana and Callie continue to delight in their sarcasm and refusal to follow rules.
Some interesting secondary characters are introduced as some of the Royal siblings become bigger players in this book.
There is slightly more diverse representation in this book as one of the royal siblings is revealed to be in a queer relationship. But that is it.
The tension between the pairings picks up and we see a little bit of spice in this one. 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Overall it was an enjoyable read and I will start on the next right away while this one is fresh in my memory.
