Bit of a slow start and honestly not the structure I would have picked, but the final chapter and epilogue gave some poignant moments and some takeaways from the man’s life.
Author does a good job of putting Franz in his own time and context and not judging him or using him as a benchmark to claim “progress” for us as a modern reader.

A remarkable look into the life of an ambitious executioner in late medieval / early renaissance Germany, who dedicated his life to restoring his families honor and providing better prospects for his children.
"The Faithful Executioner" provides an unparalleled deep dive into criminal justice, social order and the criminal underworld of this period in history.
