I listened to the audiobook. I had a very hard time getting into this book - I believe because I was not enamored with the narrator. However, I did end up liking the book. The author knows her science (or at least researched it and wrote it up accurately) and the ending was surprising to me. This is #2 in a series. I did not read/listen to the first book, and I don't think this was a problem. It has been over four years since I listened to this book (I am transferring my few thoughts from my home computer to goodreads) and I realize I never had a great urgency to go back to the first book, and I haven't delved into any of the later books in this series. Perhaps this is a series worth revisiting.

This book was better than her first, but I thought the plot would have been way more involved than it was.

You have to suspend your belief a bit in order to enjoy this book. In real life there is no way a forensic lab tech would be out in the field, taking risks and solving murders, like Theresa did in this book. That's okay though-- aren't books meant to take us out of reality? This was more of a howdunnit than a whodunnit, which was a nice change.

Average mystery not in the bone chilling category of some books of Tess Gerritsen. I like it more when evidence can be discovered thru forensics rather than how it is described here. Its more like Theresa knows the killer without an ounce of proof and then bending rules just to prove it!

So far this is the best book I've read in the series (I've read the first three). I live in Ohio and it's fun to read about locations that are familiar to me. Theresa is a fun character to read. I love that she's a scientist and not a detective like many other mystery novels I've read.

I enjoyed the first third or so of this book, but the main character was pretty unlikeable and just kept doing more and more outrageous things, when she was supposed to be working in the lab, analyzing fibres. Even her own daughter in the book felt obliged to remind her she wasn't a detective. The last third got really unbelievable and the ending was on a whole other level of its own.
