This book started out as an OK read, easy enough to get through. By the end I loved it! I'm not sure if the writing improved as I got further into the book or if I just got used to the style, but it felt like it progressively got better. I shed a few tears on several occasions. It's a story with a lot of pain, but ultimately a lot of heart.

This was such a warm hug of a book. I was captivated and delighted, and I defy anyone not to fall in love with the wonderfully cantankerous Veronica McCreedy.

What I loved was that there is so much heartbreak behind the scenes and everything is far from perfect. Veronica has isolated herself because of a dark history, and Patrick is lost. But through all that comes this beautiful optimism and wonder at nature's power to heal.

I became more engrossed as I learned more about Veronica's past, and Prior has left just enough mystery to leave me desperate for the next installment. I just hope it has as many penguins!

A sweet but predictable book.
