An interesting read given it's considered a classic. But I'm really not sure how I feel about the book, a few weeks on.

I did enjoy that the writing captured the thoughts and feelings of (stereotypical) teenage boys, and how the reader can question
the reliability of the narrator
.

While I did enjoy the writing, the plot and characters fell short in comparison. I do think it's a classic in the context of the publication date and I wonder what the impact would be in today's society.

Very interesting and sad. Seems like a very socially critical and male heavy view on young women and girls and theirs struggles. Don’t know if this was intentional or not, but is sadly a accurate description of the real world.

This was a really interesting book. The prose mirrors the style of 'on earth we are briefly gorgeous' in being poeticly written. Unfortunately, it is a victim of its time with several outdated stereotypes, however I still enjoyed it overall

Beautifully written but frustrating. I feel like I didn’t fully «get» it. None of the characters got to be real characters, and this was probably the author’s intention, commenting on American suburbia in a specific moment in time as a collective consciousness/organism obsessed with the girls existing somewhere on the margins. Pretty cool in its own way and it felt meaningful, but definitely hard to connect to when there’s no real main character(s) to grow attached to, and hard to differentiate most of the girls.

So many creepy descriptions of a 13 y/o girl. Her "budding chest", her "pagan nudity" and "her small body giving off the odor of a mature woman". Also refers to a character as a r*tard and mentions his small Japanese eyes.
