The characters felt incredibly real and although the story was dark and intense, it felt realistic.   I found the writing style refreshing and the way it is written and set out made me not want to put the book down!

I enjoyed that there were normalised LGBT characters, with flaws and all, and even other characters reactions to these LGBT characters was realistic (which unfortunately does include hatred)

This was an ARC I received almost a decade ago, and to my regret, I hadn't read it until now. What a great book. Grim in some respects, but also very funny in others. Everyone is a fully realized character and full of their own loneliness that manifests in different ways, but there's also some nice oases of camaraderie too.
