This book took me way too long to read. I’m not sure exactly what the problem was but I’m glad I’ve finally finished. I really liked the way the world was expanded to fit in both Greek and Roman gods. I wasn’t expecting it to actually make sense but it sort of does? Here’s my theory; 7 Demigods, Jason Piper and Leo from Camp Half Blood then Percy and 2 others from camp Roman, then some really spicy plot twist demigod who belongs to neither. I liked the way the gods were incorporated into this story such that the characters didn’t seem to worship them as much and didn’t have as much personal contact with them. It made them seem as more of an overbreeding presence rather than actual characters which was an interesting take after the Percy Jackson series.
Something I didn’t enjoy was how the main characters Jason has practically no personality. He was blank AF, he just reacted to what happened to him then occasionally spewed some memories which revealed the actual plot. I’m glad the next book doesn’t follow him but I’m also afraid that Percy will be stripped of his personality which would be devastating for me. Also what’s up with the dream sequences? Why is every other chapter a dream? I know they were relevant but it just seemed over used and like surely there much have been a better way.
Overall it was good but honestly I was a bit bored. Jason is not an enjoyable character to read from but the other perspectives save it for me. Hoping for better in the next book, people tell me it’s good. 3 stars.
