I picked this book up on a recommendation that it was a good fall read and I’m quite glad I did. It has vampires and witches and mysteries perfect for spooky season. The only issue I had with this book was that I felt it rushed through some conflicts extremely quickly. Immediately back-to-back, Valerie goes from a wendigo attack to being captured and tortured by Russians to killing Connor. Even the time she was captured went extremely quickly. While I’m sure the author was using this a was to plant seeds that are going to continue to grow in the upcoming books, I still wish she had chosen to focus a little more time on maybe two of these events than cramming all three in or just making the book a bit longer. That being said, I did enjoy this book and plan on immediately starting the next one.

 This was an amazing read.

Trigger warnings: death, blood, murder, mild gore.

I felt compelled by the story to keep going and wanted to know about all the intrigue surrounding Valerie. It had a mild school setting but with older characters, it felt a little newer than some others.

I loved the descriptions in the book and felt as though they really helped to solidify the story and keep me hooked. Can't wait to read the rest of this series.

This was EXACTLY what I was looking for!
Underworld meets Chilling Adventures of Sabrina! The first 2 books are far more Dark Acedemia vibes, then book 3 expands beyond the academy, and I am so upset Book 4 isn't out until Sept!! I read the 3 released novels within a week, I was hooked immediately and NEED book 4!!! *
Also, the spice does in fact intensify with each book!

I enjoyed the concept of witches working for vampires. The mystery elements were well done. I'm excited to see what happens next, especially after the cliffhanger! I enjoyed the characters and am excited to see how the romance progresses. I'm definitely a Valerie and Reid shipper. The writing was very well done.

I did find that this read younger than I expected. The academy felt like a high school to me. Her friends also read as teenagers at times. But over all this is very adult content.

If I think of anything else that I want to say, I'll add it here.
