I found this book very entertaining. It’s the first time reading anything in this genre and am already loving it.
The author makes the characters thrilling and even though some of them isn’t the best of people you still like them very much. Though I have one character (Ferro) that I don’t like. I think it’s more writing of her than her, if that makes sense.
Or maybe I just isn’t a fan of characters that is that intent on violence as she is. And hates everyone. It makes kind of sense from her background, but still misses some context to why she is as she is, besides what we already have been told.
Love Logen and inquisitor Glokta. Otherwise everybody is very well written.

I did not enjoy this book. It came highly recommended and seemed interesting, but I should have DNF'ed 50 pages in. I'm used to books that take some time to meander towards the good stuff but the good stuff didn't come until the last 30 pages and by then it feels cheap. I spent the first 350 pages "giving it a chance" and the last 150 finishing it so I don't have to pick it up again.

There is a decently thick line between characters that are morally bad or questionable and characters that are just unlikeable. I found Logen and the Dogman kind of interesting but every other character whose POV we can read was boring and flat.

Maybe it's something you would like and could connect to, but this fell flat for me.

This was better than good but not amazing? I am intrigued to see where this is going. No one is really likeable, but everyone is either relatable or understandable. I was into the story from the beginning though we are dropped right in, no explanation whatsoever. Following seemingly random people for no reason. But each character is written in a compelling way. I'm not burning with the uncontrolled desire to know what happens next but I am interested to know. Also, boy is this violent. Mind the trigger and content warnings. Some of it is towards the main characters and some of it by them. All are morally grey at least. Definitely could've done without all the fatphobia.

i had fun but i am not super into trilogies that dont have much pay off within each book… this whole book felt like a lengthy exposition. love logen and bayaz tho.
