A great book and a quote at the end I didn't think I needed to hear, but meant a lot to me.

“I’m too selfish.”
“Everyone is selfish at eighteen. You’re supposed to be selfish. I was selfish!..."

the writing was beautiful, i loved the two main characters relationship but the timeline pacing felt off & unrealistic - it ruined the immersion for me, therefore making the story less unsettling + creepy as it could've been. the blur between realistic fiction and magical realism was sometimes very confusing and could make the narrative hard to follow, other than that, i enjoyed the story. not a bad book!

lowell's character confused me though, his random 'arc' of sorts felt unnecessary and the re-introduction of him was obviously just for an extra obstacle/ scare factor in the plot,, felt like more could've been done with him though.

Gripping, emotionally devastating — hey, listen. I know these words are thrown around for novels like this, but it’s true! The whole last 100 pages had my eyes swelling, with that painful hum of oncoming tears behind them. It’s a well-written, creepy, tense book that has a delicate heart underpinning everything.

a weird book narrated by a deeply unlikeable character! this didn't quite hit for me but I appreciate the intensity
(and I'm glad I read it so I don't have that eye looking at me from my tbr anymore)
