I liked this book but it was depressing/hard to read at times because it had some pretty dark themes.  Kept me engaged and excited throughout even if I did cry.

It was boring and flat, the characters weren't interesting, and the dark stuff veered towards being edgy rather than impactful/actually meaningful. The dialogue was also cringe-worthy and poor, the story meandred too much, and Peter's entire backstory was ridiculous.

I wanted to enjoy this, so it was pretty disappointing for it to be this bad. DNF as I didn't want to waste anymore time on it.

Although the beginning of the book is a little slow, you still get invested in the story, wondering how this retelling will go. It certainly picks up the pace and is action-packed halfway through.

This fairytale retelling is really dark. This is gore galore, so if that's your kind of book, I definitely recommend this. Now, I'm not a fan of gore, and I felt like, at least for me, some of the over-the-top violence (heads rolling, guts dropping, you get the gist) was a little unnecessary, but it does add its charm to the book.

I liked this book a lot. I liked how it pictured Neverland, how eery it felt. I liked Peter's portrayal as well. Not gonna lie, when I watched the movies as a child, although I did like him, he always felt off. As I grew up and thought about it, I could feel there was definitely darkness somewhere. And then I found out about the original, and was obsessed with thinking about how, pardon my french, fucked the story was. The Child Thief definitely captured the vibe I felt from the story.

The worldbuilding and art was awesome. I liked the story but even though a lot happens the book feels very slow. So I stopped reading and started the audiobook (which was amazing). The book wasn’t my favourite, because the pace felt weird and it didn’t grip me. There were also some holes in the story for example the mist destroys weapons like guns and bomb but at the first battle the Volk of Avalon was shot down by bomb
I am not sure how I feel about the ending. The „not happy ending“ is great as a teaching moment for Peter and his willingness to follow the lady blindly even if the cost is the live of all the devils. The book should have ended with him crying and remembering all the children lost in his campaign, but no the next second he’s laughing and happy because he has the power of the horned one. The captains perspective and his love for Danny was my favourite book and I which we would get to know how their future looks like.
