Read these at bedtime with the kids. We laughed quite a bit.

I think "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" is my favorite of Dahl's stories. "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator" kind of left me scratching my head.

I never read these books as a child but am now experiencing them with my 8 year old son and what fun it is! He loves the Roald Dahl books and can't seem to get enough of them. The first book is very good. The second one is a little silly but I have to say I actually LOL while reading this one!

Next up for us is James and the Giant Peach.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a lot of fun but I can see why Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator hasn’t gotten a movie. It’s not bad but it feels muddled and disconnected from the first book.

I read these both to my daughter and she really loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It is definitely the better of the two books. Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator was not as good and I found myself editing some lines while reading it aloud to her. I read both since I have this set, but the sequel as almost always is the case is not as good.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is four stars, but Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator is only three stars. I rounded up for the set.

First Graders might be the best possible audience for this book. Especially if you have a group of them who love to make up accents for each of the characters! Loved it.

My six year old and I just finished it. Tomorrow we are going to watch the film version and talk about it. She hopes the second book is as good as the first.

Charlie and the chocolate factory 3/5
Charlie and the great glass elevator 1/5

I really couldn't be bother with the second part.

Plus, nothing compares to Matilda.

I love the story of how kind Charlie Bucket won the factory from Willy Wonka. It has many different kinds of tricks and secrets of how they make the candies and goodies. and in the Great Glass Elevator, it shows even more magic in the factory that was outside of the tour, and Charlie gets to show it to his entire family this time.
