This book was pulled from some library shelves and was one of the books listed by name in the judge’s order to return books to the shelves. I read it for a banned book reading challenge. I may have been okay with content if it weren’t a graphic novel.
Spoiler I don’t like seeing a kitten tormented and I really don’t like seeing it dead (just it’s hind paw is shown, but still). There is another girl, Rosie, in the story, and her mother drove a car with Rosie and her brother in it into a lake. Rosie and her brother don’t die, but their mother does (intentional suicide)

I’d have preferred not to have read this, but by the time I figured that out, I’d already read enough that I’d have rather avoided, so I finished the book. It also ends without resolution of story line which may come in another book that isn’t available yet.

I appreciated a lot of the topics brought up in this book and the art style was beautiful. Some of the dialogue was a bit cringy but not enough to turn me away. The plot was somewhat predictable and I felt like they could’ve done more / gone deeper (felt a bit rushed). That being said, it was very enjoyable and would recommend.

A great little read for younger readers with nice art and colouring. Definitely deal with some difficult, potentially triggering topics and the ending feels a little rushed, but the relationship between young Selina and Bruce is lovely the read.

It was an okay story for a teen audience I think, I am not sure how well it works as a DC /Catwoman story as I dont know much about her character/history (but one thing that pulled me out of this was the idea of Bruce going to a public school).
While fantastical things exist in DC this book kind of sidesteps them, and I personally wouldnt have minded the little girl really growing thorns but I understand that they wanted a more "grounded" story.
The art is okay, not really my thing but not the worst.
