What an incredible, gut wrenching and eye opening story. Years later and the painful relevancy is still there in so many ways. The truth of Nazism and its poison was so disregarded and covered up, only to be brought to light in a short 60-some pages. Banning books that shed the light on people’s truth is something that is becoming a problem today. The fact that this book was banned and hid from German people, continuing their poisoned, clouded vision - it breaks my heart. The use of characters in this story is incredible. And Katherine Kressman Taylor’s voice is so concise - the brevity of this book truly blows my mind. If you have not read this, push this to the top of your list now - please!!

Address Unknown is a short but impactful read. It is a series of letters between two friends and business partners. Martin has just returned to Germany while Max, who is Jewish, remains in America. The year is 1933 and Hitler is rising to power. It highlights the rise of fascism and how a person could be taken by extremism and become willing to sacrifice the human rights of some groups in the belief it will somehow improve their country. Obviously this book has a lot of relevance and resonance today. Towards the end the nature of Max’s letters changed drastically and it took me a minute to work out what was happening. I’m still not sure how I feel about it, but I definitely understand the sentiment underlying it.

So good! I love the length and the format. It was a great spring break read. Very telling about Germany thoughts.
