Beginning is a little bit slow. Towards the end it really picks up. The author does a good job at creating disguising characters. Was a solid 2.5 until half-way.

fascinating and horrifying, like a car crash. Barbara’s mundane dysfunction is initially overshadowed by Sheba’s much more extravagant wrongdoings, but  Barbara reveals more and more of herself through her telling of Sheba’s story and we get to see the pair in all of their ugly glory. ultimately disquieting and incredibly compelling

an excellently written story that weaves together a quite a lot of complicated subjects into what seems to be a mundanely indecent drama.
i loved the narrator’s voice and her inner monologues. i loved that all the characters are complex and three-dimensional. so much so that all of them, including the narrator, left me feeling conflicted about them, as did the whole story.

This book was so bloody good. It’s uncomfortable to read, yet fascinating, as it feels like a study of the relationship between these two women as opposed to purely focusing on Sheba’s behaviour. It’s so interesting to look at two women from completely different backgrounds, who are still both messed up and riddled with issues. The film is really great too, but I think the book is possibly more stark in a positive way, as it cannot be accused of glorification.

It's a very snobby book, I couldn't get over how annoying the narrator is and then the actual story is also very dark.

I had to read this for school. I fair enjoyed it! All the characters are awful people so it’s not a pleasant read, but it’s an intriguing story. Barbra is a freak but I think she’s really interesting.

It’s great to analyse!
