She didn't want to be strong anymore. She wanted to be hurt. She wanted to be fucking furious. (Location 497)
Check your trigger warning. Some of the r*** memories and the way the 'the incident' changed Joy's entire life are both intense and brutal. As a survivor myself though, this felt beautifully cathartic, and the sweet, tender, filthy, kinky (mildly) sex truly did feel like a healing experience for Joy.
This book is everything. It hurt but only in the best way.
Joy is delightfully queer and the overall queer representation (including non-binary rep) in this book is mind-blowingly good.
