I love an enemies to lovers. In this case, the witch hunter doesn’t even know he’s falling in love with his enemy—the witch. In that aspect, I enjoyed this book. You certainly were rooting for a happy ending even when it seemed like hopeless star crossed lovers. There's a bit of a twist ending that makes everything come together which I liked too. However, I found the characters to be a bit shallow and I would have loved for Aguirre to explore their depth more.

This book is also currently tagged as lgbtq+ however there isn't much more than a causal mentioning of one of the main characters' bisexuality. There is one lesbian couple in the witch coven as well, but their love is not relevant to their roles in the plot. Any lgtbq+ content is barely a footnote and easily read over. The main romance is between a woman witch and male witch hunter and its great if that’s your sexuality expectation. However, this wouldn't be a great recommendation if you are specifically looking for clear and central non-heteronormative relationships.
