"Are the flaws of the main characters a main focus of the book?" Never has the answer been more Yes.

There was not even a fraction of enough build up or tension for any of the huge plot points in the narrative to matter as much as they should have. The characterization wavered so much though it started out so strong and that was disappointing. The band’s level of success made no since from the events described and there was no romance between Daisy and Billy, it felt forced and like a shitty enemies-to-lovers at times. I did read this in two days and I couldn’t ever put it down but in the end it was just lacking. I like the made up version in my head more than the reality of it, now I’m actually excited to see how the show changes it (and makes it more interesting because in the end it really isn’t as interesting of a story as it sells itself to be). Also there was a touch of soap opera corniness and ridiculousness that’s kind of hard to ignore at times - an Italian Prince, for instance. And  I don’t like the writing of it enough to pick up any of TJR’s other books but I didn’t completely hate it, I had a fun time reading it’s just that the execution was such a let down to the great concept.

This book REALLY surprised me since the plot didn’t really sound like something I’d love. I was pretty sure going into it that this book that it just wasn’t going to be for me be I was quickly captivated by literally every character. They all had such strong clear voices and identities even through the interview style of writing. This book was devastating in a way I wasn’t expecting. I went in this book thinking it was a cute romance but I got a raw book about every emotion out there. I used to study addictions counseling so this book felt really personal and I felt my heart break many times. By the end of it I was in tears and I can’t remember the last time a book made me cry. Just so beautiful. There’s nothing I didn’t like about this book and not one thing I would change. I was halfway through the book before I realized it’s a fake band (I didn’t read the back I just trusted the hype lmao)

I’m not surprised when I say that I absolutely loved this because Taylor Jenkins Reid can never miss. The book is written like an oral history (“biography”) of the biggest band in the 70s but the band is actually fictional. The narrator/ “author” of the book interviews the characters and we see different opinions about certain events and things. So some band members remember something different than others which is really interesting to read and it gives a good outer perspective on how miscommunication can happen. The book shows the history on how the band ‘Daisy Jones& the Six’ was created and how it was before and how it eventually evolved.
There are a lot of characters in the book in the beginning and I was forgetting the names and what instrument they play all the time and had to go back a few pages to remind myself lmao but once you got it it’s not difficult anymore and imo not many characters appear.
I loveeeee the way Reid created many songs that the band/band members made and they’re really cool. (I’m super sad that only 3 songs from the fake/book album ‘Aurora’ made it onto the real album that’s now on Spotify because I would’ve loved to listen to more songs that were created “with me” in the book. Now I have lots of songs were I wasn’t reading how they got created and stuff but idc) The characters in this book were interesting because you see many different people and how different they act and cope with situation.
Spoiler Camila is such a strong woman and while I don’t think that she would’ve stayed together with Billy and put her whole trust in him in this century I can understand why she did and had to do it in the 70s. Karen was with Warren one my fav members of the band. She is such a badass icon and I support her with all my heart. She can do no wrong and she doesn’t want no man! I loved the things she said in the end of the book:  that she would’ve maybe wanted to be in a relationship in the 90s or 00s or sth but she didn’t want to be a stay-at-home-housewife who has to obey a man. I loved the she really followed her dream of playing in a band professionally even after Daisy Jones & the six broke up. Warren is just a cool dude who didn’t have any drama with anyone and who’s basically just chilling gotta love him!

The people I liked the least were Graham and Eddie because they were annoying. (I understood them sometimes but idk) Billy is weird but ik he tried and Daisy was mixed for me. I liked her tho!
Spoiler the twist were we found out that julia's the narrator and writer of the oral history was sooooo cool because I didn’t expect that at all.
