I'm usually all for a second chance romance. There's just something about a couple who are good together getting their chance to reconnect and find that spark again. On that front, this pair does get that, but I had trouble connecting to the story and the characters. The story is a bit choppy as it moves back and forth between past and present and there are some scenes that have little to nothing to do with the story. My biggest problem was with the maturity, or lack of maturity, of the main characters. I expected them to be juvenile in their teenage flashbacks, but these two seemingly intelligent professionals were just as immature years later. All combined, there were more negatives than positives for me with this one.

Hating the boss

This book pleasantly surprised me. It had characters that you could get behind almost immediately. With a really nice plot twist.
It was well written the only part that made me scratch my head was toward the end when she was wrapping everything up. But overall a really good book that you will probably finish in one of two sittings.
Happy reading

A fast paced read, good chemistry but there didn’t seem that much to the plot and what there was seemed obvious to me anyway, ok read but not the best

The title of this is kind of weird and really hasn't had much bearing on the nature of the story. The male lead is not her boss so I just can't work that out. Anyway, this is more of a second chance romance of sorts. This couple had a summer romance seven years ago but the male character ups and disappears quite suddenly. There are a couple mysteries in here and I found the uncovering to be a bit of a letdown and kind of unbelievable in a lot of areas. Well, it's not a terrible story but not great either.

Riske and Revenge is the first book in Natalie E. Wrye’s Revenge series, and I’m unsure how I feel about this one.

In truth, this is a two-point-five-star rating rounded up. I went in expecting a story that would grip me, but I wasn’t as sucked in as I was hoping I would be. There were a few moments where I found myself enjoying it, but mostly I felt as though I was wading through a lot of nothing to reach the good stuff.

I think a lot of my issues came from the fact I disliked both of our main characters. Not in the sense of them being unlikeable characters in any particular way, simply that I couldn’t find anything that made me care about them. I didn’t care much about their individual stories, nor did I care much for the relationship between the two of them. I was watching things unfold, but I didn’t care much at all.

Moreover, I spent so long waiting for something big to happen in relation to the revenge aspect. It’s the name of the series, so my hopes were high… Yet I was let down. Sure there were some drama filled moments, but it wasn’t the dark and twisted revenge story I had been hoping for. It felt as though too many things were thrown together, too many aspects were attempted, and none were played out as well as they could have been.

Despite it all, there were glimpses of possibility throughout this book – hence why I rounded up instead of down. It could have been so much more, but as it was it felt like a bit of a chore.

Overall, it wasn’t what I had been hoping for.
