<3 this book!

At first you think it's going to be similar to other stories like this. Alien meets girl, they run into bad aliens, they fall in love. the end.
This book loosely follows that LOL alien and girl fall in love. You think you understand what they will come up against, but you don't. Alana did an amazing job on what happens when they are captured, emotional and physical fear. I don't want to give anything away but you definitely want to read this book.

Dax and Dhalia's journey to an HEA was not easy - they kept facing new challenges at every turn. Their relationship had to endure through a one sided love; a period where they were both briefly in love; then their love was lost; and then a new love built with one another - my head and heart were turning all the time. Lust and steamy action was always available to them, it was getting through to loving one another at the same time. This book was full of ups and downs - from gladiator fights to a tortuous villain to having to deal with past relationships and emotions. This is the first book I've read in the series - but there was enough continuity information provided that I could still enjoy this on it's own. That said, I do now want to go back and read the previous books.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Wow. I will admit this book was not anything I expected - and I mean that in a good way. I enjoyed exploring the development of the relationship between Dax and Dahlia. I really appreciated how they approached each challenge and that both of them had to work for the relationship

I received an ARC in exchange for a voluntary review but I specifically asked for it because I wanted to read the story ASAP

I really enjoyed this book.
It certainly wasn’t an instalove romance but more of a journey to love and a bit of self realization. It was definitely an emotional rollercoaster but I think it was worth the ride.
Enjoyable adventure story, likable cast of characters and a lovely HEA.
Read: 7-8/01/22

*Review written in retrospect so sorry not a lot of feedback or trigger warnings because I can’t remember - whoops

I liked this... until the last third-ish. I think it was way too convenient... and also, way too easy to get out of. Where were the repercussions? I don't think any of these Gladiators will ever get the closure that they deserve. And then... to do that to Dax? What was the point? He was a perfectly nice being, then that was taken away from him. For me, it devalued who he was as a character. Totally pointless.
