This wasn’t my favorite in the series I thought it was kind of unnecessary until I figured out one of the characters was the next MMC. I did love Boden and Laiken and my heart HURT after that prologue omg I felt so bad for her and the pain she was carrying. I will tell you as usual that plot twist I did NOT see coming. Because I could have sworn I knew who was causing the problems but like always I was wrong. Overall it was a good book and a very good love story about growth and love after loss. And the thriller aspect was coming from all over.

Very minor spoilers below

One of my favourites in the Tattered and Torn series (but nothing will top Fractured Skies). I loved the chronic pain rep and the mutual healing

It’s no secret that Catherine Cowles’ books tend to follow an established formula of romance and suspense. The characters change but the suspense plays out very similarly each time. These small towns can’t catch a break! Thankfully, it is a very entertaining formula that she writes well. As long as I have a bit of a break between each book, I really enjoy my time reading them

That said, I was genuinely surprised when the killer was revealed this time around. I definitely didn’t expect it

One thing that did annoy me was how *so* many of the characters blamed Laiken for the accident, what happened after, her trying to move on, etc. like she didn’t lose more than almost everyone and then ended up with chronic pain. I understand it’s a complicated situation with the family, but it had been almost a decade and it seemed every second character judged her so harshly.

We leave the Easton siblings in this book for a second and at first, I was really hesitant about this couple because of it — but goddd, Boden and Laiken won me over so quickly.

There is so much hurt and trauma in this book (and then they all get even more traumatised xoxo) but it's handled so gracefully and you could really see them healing together.

I really didn't see the reveal coming (and not in a positive way) and we've definitely had more logical twists but all the character development we got from it made it semi-okay again.

Still, Cowles is just putting out bangers in this series again and again! Definitely one of my new favourite authors.

CW: chronic pain, car accident, drug abuse, murder, depression

I really can't explain why I need to binge my way through these books. I liked learning about Boden and Laiken. I liked reading how Boden accepted Laiken for who she was without trying to fix her. I liked how she learned to let Boden help her without feeling that he was trying to fix her. I liked how Boden and Laiken learned to lean on each other considering they had similar emotional trauma in their past. I was a little off about who was the bad guy in this one. This villain gave no indications at all in the story until the last minute.

don’t get me wrong, i love catherine cowles’ books especially this series in particular but I wish the plots of the books can be different. It’s always the same thing the plot is always the heroine getting kidnapped by some crazy person and both the characters have crazy people in their past yada yada. i love the characters but this is what brought the rating down
i am excited for shys book, but i have a feeling it’ll be the same thing idk 😕
