This truly caught me by surprise. I appreciated Munyevu's honesty about the non-linear nature of the story. I enjoyed the interwoven tapestry of his story, one that ultimately points to the complexity and beauty of oral histories in general. I am also thankful that I listened to this instead of reading it. The story wouldn't have made sense outside of his voice. There are many threads in this narrative that are left unresolved, which is frustrating at times, but I think that's part of the point. Real stories are messy and unresolvable, pressing us to lean into tension and learn more about ourselves and our evolving shared and distinct histories.

Wow. This performance alone is worthwhile an audible membership. Masterful is one word to describe it, piercing is another.

A memoir recording of his life Tonderai speaks about his life and that of his father, Mugabe. While I was really glad to listen to this from his own words and voice, and there were definitely moments I felt emotionally risen to the moment, in totality I felt this fell a bit flat. I definitely wanted more factual details beside it as well.

I actually really liked this, but I wish I'd realized it was a play — not really a memoir — before I started. It's the first "dramatization" I've listened to on Audible, and I'm not really sure it's for me but I'm glad I gave it a try anyway.

Mugabe, My Dad & Me has definitely prompted me to learn more about the Zimbabwean diaspora & Mugabe's role in it, so hopefully I can find a good book on that topic to follow.
