Much more of a cozy mystery with the war as a distant background issue.
Leslie and Caroline on their own, with Edward and Cyril away spying, they are more immersed in village life, epecially now as baby Graham is due any day soon.
A flurry of anonymous letters, followed by some unexpected deaths have the local gossips in full flood. The little give-away comments 'heard but not listened to' do give the reader the culprit a bit ealier than our sleuths get to the answer. But an enjoyable Christie-esque village setting and slice of wartime village life well done.
