i changed the rating from 4 to 5 stars because i think and talk about this so much it would be weird if i’d only give it 4

i really really enjoyed this book. capote invented the true crime, nonfiction novel and is an absolute genius. however, some parts of the book felt unnecessarily dense — like an information dump. despite this, the story was absolutely captivating and even made me feel nauseous at some points. would recommend to anyone with a tough stomach kr true crime lover, 4.5/5.

The writing of this book is a piece of art. The only things holding me back from giving it a full 5 here are 1) the lack of journalistic integrity on the part of Capote, as he altered the courses of these men's lives without acknowledging his influence in the book, and 2) the times in the middle when the story slowed down to delve into Perry's past several times.
