My goodness! Lots of what-in-the-world-is-happening moments! Excellent writing about a pretty interesting subject. Highly recommend!

I'm going to give myself a reward for finishing this one.

Smexy books are supposed to be fun! Smexy books are not supposed to be boring. Smexy books should have characters that you can at least tolerate. The sex should at least be hot.

Didn't happen in this one. I almost didn't give it a one star because I did like the authors writing. But then the more I read the more I hated this book. I can not do that. I have other books by this author and my friends love her. They were divided on this book so I'm going to read something else by her before my final determination.
But this one?

Layana is a little rich girl, never worked a day in her life. She was pampered by mommy and daddy her whole life and once she got her hands on that trust fund she decided it was time to live the way she wanted too.
By hooking up with mega rich Brant.
Mommy and Daddy wanted her to be some rich guys trophy wife so she is out to prove them wrong.
I never could work up any like at all for her character. She pissed me off.

Brant is super smart and of course, drop dead gorgeous. I wonder what would happen if in one of these books the couple was just poor white trash?

So begins their love affair. The love affair that is boring as crap.
Then she meets Lee. Does him too.
(it's not cheating-so don't get your panties in a wad)
She connives her way into his life and runs off his girlfriend. Then she lets him talk to her like a dog. Calls her the slut. WTF?

I don't like any of these damn characters.

Then the BIG TWIST!!!
SpoilerFuck me sideways, he has multiple personalities that his weirdo aunt is exploiting to make them even more money.

My answer to this whole book is:

Because I can't even work up a decent rant about the whole damn thing.

I started this book and thought..."really...? -_-" HOWEVER, about halfway through I was about to have a panic attack because it went from ew, and gross...to HOLY WTF IS HAPPENING?!?!??!??! Then at about the 70% mark I just could not put the book down. HOLY SMOKES - that twist thooo! I was completely thrown by that ending. I was slightly disappointed in the epilogue. Sure - it was interesting, and gave us some closure, but I wanted more LOVE and FIREWORKS and BABIES! I would definitely recommend this one! It was interesting, kept me on my "toes," and had enough MMMPH.

A love story with a twist. The first half of the book was a little slow for e but once The Secret was out the storyline really took off.

I had such a difficult time with this book. Took me 4 days to actually get through it :( It's not that it was a bad story - I just couldn't make a connection with it.

This book fucked with my head. I loved reading from the start, cause it was such a rotten and dirty relationship, with the wife cheating and not being able to stop. But then the plot twist came and smacked me in the face. The person she was cheating with was her husband, except another one of his personalities because he has multiple personality disorder. Now that is a good plot. I LOVED READING IT and I must say, I got really sad when they tried to get rid of the other personality cause he was so rough and I loved that.

Black Lies is an extremely engrossing romantic thriller, that kept me entertained despite having someone spoil the plot twist for me. The main protagonist is a total bad ass, and I enjoyed reading about her ruthless attempts to keep the men in her life in love with her.

Alessandra Torre's male leads in her books however, never really do it for me. I don't fall in love with them. That's probably because her romances happen too quickly, and then she relies on plot to carry the story through.

Her plots are always amazing and inventive, but I wish she spent more time making me fall in love with the romance, since that's what is supposed to tie her stories together most of the time.

So I think that the romance deserves three stars. But the plot line and writing deserves four. I could not put this book down.

I read until two in the morning just so I could get to the big reveal (which was mostly emotionally satisfying). The sex scenes were vanilla and boring, but if you ignore them and focus on the thriller like aspects of this story, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Overall, I recommend this book. The Ghostwriter by her is also pretty good, in my opinion.
