Another absolutely gutting edition from the Hades Hangmen series. I wasn’t sure how compelling of a character Flame would be, but his personality bloomed with the help of sweet, innocent Maddie. Both of them had been through incredibly horrendous trauma (that is written in graphic detail, fyi) but through their relationship they emerged from their experiences so much stronger.

I’ll say this one was as dark (if not darker) than the previous two, but the romance just hit a bit harder. In a way, Flame and Maddie seemed to be written as fated mates, bound for one another.

The atrocities Flame and Maddie faced as children and adults is horrifying. Reading about it all was really uncomfortable. I was happy they found solace in each other, but as with the last book, I wish there had been some mental health help for them.

I was happy Cain finally clued into what was really going on in the cult, its teachings, and the falsities being preached. BUT I wish the cult had gone bye bye in the last book. I know it's a big lead up to future books, but my heart and head can only handle reading so much about it. Which is why, this will probably be my last book in the series. At least for a while.

CW: child physical and sexual abuse, violence, murder, blood, cult/new religious order, kidnapping

okay so i was really surprised by how good this book was. i had read book 4 when i just about gave up reading book 2 and thought this one would be the same, but booktok gave me the push i needed and i dont regret it!

maddie and flame were soooo different from the other couples that it was easy to get into their story. it had so much pain from them both, and it was hard to read what flame went through... i remember i had to stop reading some scenes cause they were very detailed in what happened in his past.

still, it was a good read, especially now that i can connect what happened with cain that he got to where he was on book 4 😂 so good to finally understand that part 💀

While I know both characters are growing as people
I dislike the constant reminder of how important they are to each other. The constant I’m yours and your mine. While that is a huge theme in these books, I could’ve done with more action/plot rather than the continuous talking of how important they are to each other.

Amazing read, beautiful story, painful topics. All around great book! Maddie and Flame both just break your heart through every page. How badly they have to fight just to accept love and affection is so bittersweet and so worth it in the end.

This is my favorite book of the series so far. It took me by surprise as the main mail character has been built up in the last two books to be completely certifiable and yet this book handled him with such care and depth.

The main female character was such a salve to my soul and the soul of the male mc.
The story revolved around Flame, a character with what presents as autism and the childhood trauma that broke him, and Maddie, a character with severe childhood trauma of her own at the hands of a religious cult. What is different about this book in comparison to the first two is that Maddie is the one saving Flame and not the male characters saving the female. This story offers redemption.
