This modern rendition of the Greek pantheon of gods is a classic "underdog saving the world" story.
Excellent editing - believe me, it's a bigger factor than you think - compliments great pacing, leaving more than enough room for our emotions to get a good workout.
From Aphrodite's (now Abby's) point of view, we get time to enjoy the well-placed witticisms, without sacrificing the gravity of the situation, or the emotional extras that one would expect when dealing with a love deity.
Abby isn't alone in her adventures. Artemis "Artie", the Goddess of the Hunt, Ares, God of War, Hermes, the messenger God, & Zeus are just a few of the mythological characters which have been reinterpreted beautifully for this outstanding adventure.
I am more than a little excited to read the rest of the series!

Even though it seems there was little research done (Hermes and Aphrodite never had sex? Wasn't that a thing? Artemis is a nerd with a love interest?) the book doesn't suffer much for it. The random emotional bombs, however, aren't in the same category. For instance, Abby's relationship with Marshal seemed to have developed completely in the author's head and not on the page.
But whatever. It was a cute story and made me happy. I'm down for the next one.

The Goddess of Love has ... issues.

The most recent of which has resulted in an ultimatum from the King of the Gods. Can Aphrodite complete the assigned task in time? Considering the proposed punishment, she's going to do her best.

I developed a love of mythology somewhere around around fifth grade and I will read anything based on the Greek Pantheon. I loved the fact that Aphrodite (a.k.a. Abby) is a modern woman, whilst so many of the other gods still act like they're in ancient Greece. The story was fun and funny and proves that beauty and brains are NOT exclusive traits.
