I think that I compared this a little to much to the Hunger Games, and it has much more fighting and less gentle moments than HG. And I tend to get a little bored by the fighting scenes. I also wasn't super in love with Tris since she seemed to be a little mean and kind of feral? I get her rebelling against the obedience and service that defined her whole life, but dang, she lost all her empathy. I'm not sure if I'll continue this series. Also, majorrrrr props to Ms. Roth for writing this IN COLLEGE. That's so unreal.

I was unsure at first what I was going to rate this and what I would say because I read it in my late 20s and not in high school, so because of that some of the story was the same dystopian setting that I've read in other books and some stuff was cringy. I didn't like the fast progression between Tris and Four and Will and Christina, but that is just my opinion.

I honestly didn’t have very high hopes but it surprised me and I genuinely enjoyed it a lot! Obviously it’s a middle grade dystopian from the 2010s, but definitely one of the best of said genre that I’ve read. (As a scale: not as good as the Hunger Games but wayyy better than Rot and Ruin) I even enjoyed the romance!
