The final chapter of the series does not disappoint. It had my heart racing and my mind shouting internally. It is a satisfying conclusion and had a few twists that I did not see coming. If you enjoyed the first two then you will continue to do so with this one. There are introduction of new and interesting characters but it does not come at the cost of the pre-existing ones.

First off, I love Simon Vance's reading of this trilogy. I will always remember the characters in his voice.

I was struck by so many things as I listened to the three books.

1. The characters were unusual but entirely believable as people. I'm going to miss them in my life! Or not miss them, in the case of the villains.

2. Perhaps one reason they were believable is that none of them was a perfect person. Mikael was irresponsible about staying in contact. Lisbeth, well her faults were a big part of her character. Everyone else had this or that little defect that made them human.

3. Unlike the typical mystery, where facts are gradually revealed to you, and the protagonist usually figures it out before you are allowed to, there are many times in this trilogy in which you know more than any of the individual characters, and you're waiting for them to "get it." And then just when you're feeling smug, something is revealed that you never saw coming.

4. I've never seen such attention paid to detail, such as mentioned the model of cell phone or computer used, and over and over again, or the exact version of Asphyxia used to monitor another person's computer use. It does make me wonder if that will make the books feel out of date sooner. Who will know what an Ericsson T30 mobile in in another 10 years?

5. One of the most hair-raising scenes in the third book occurs in the epilogue! It makes me wonder if that was tacked on after the author died to give some closure to the trilogy, since originally there were 10 books planned.

6. Americans think of Sweden as having a very advanced and enlightened government and society, but these books make it look as though there is as much misogyny there as anywhere else.

It's hard to move on and listen to other books at this point. I've been living in this audio world for a couple months.

A pity this book wasn't as concise as the previous two. I felt that the plot was a bit too bloated for my liking and I found myself feeling bored halfway through. Although, thankfully, the pace picked up considerably towards the last quarter and the ending was satisfying.

It's a toss up between this and the second book as to which is my favorite. I'm a sucker for a good legal story, so this one is probably tops. Stieg Larsson is excellent at weaving together stories. I'm sad that there won't be another to read; I'm sure he had another story line in mind.

There was a lot of build up in this story and a shit ton of added characters. I’m actually starting to keep everyone straight. I absolutely loved the last bit of this book as there were many, “hell ya” moments. #GirlPower This is kind of a feel-good series, because so far for the most part, all of the main protagonists come out on top. I’m not mad about it. It’s may comfort read at the moment.
Spoiler Most of the focus was on Lisbeth and her trial and uncovering Zepo and what they did to keep Alexander Zalachenko (her father) a secret.
