This is a perfect cozy(-ish) mystery: atmospheric, spooky, suspenseful, intelligent, full of character and fascinating characters, and just plain good old fun to read.
Highly rereadable, too, because the joy of spending time with these characters in this setting outweighs the reduced suspense of knowing who the murderer is.

I continue to enjoy this series in audio form. The author gives me exactly what I want and need right now. I was happy that Swift was still part of the cast, even though he has retired from police work. The way he and Lennox work together and antagonize each other is great fun. Again the side characters and the setting were more important to me than the actual mystery, although that too was intriguing, with the rich historic background it provided.

These stories are fun, but the lack of correct punctuation is very distracting. I wish the author would hire an editor. Also, maybe I've just read too many in a row, but this one dragged. The acceptance into a private household of a clairvoyant nobody knows and nobody invited doesn't make any sense, especially with people dying all around. On the other hand, Fogg the dog actually has a hand in solving this one, so bravo!

This was a very fun cozy mystery set at a castle on an island in Scotland at Halloween. I haven't read any of the rest of the series but this was recommended on the Strong Sense of Place podcast for Halloween so I figured I would try it. It was a lot of fun, but there were perhaps too many characters and a bit too much going on (it incorporates real and theoretical history, as well as 6 different archeologists, on top of the people who live at the castle and the visitors). Our detective had some pets which I enjoyed. It's all very twisty and a bit difficult to figure out what is going on or solve the mystery. I suspected a lot of different people at different times. Other than it getting confusing because there was a little too much going on, I enjoyed reading this book.

October 1921 ad Major Heathcliff Lennox is summoned by his friend ex-Chief Inspector Swift to his home, Braeburn Castle, in the middle of Loch Laich. It seems that he has discovered a skeleton, which has now misplaced his head. But not long after he arrives, there is a death and not the last. Between them Lennox and Swift must decide who among the guests which include an archaeology team, is the guilty party.
This is another delightful mystery in this well-written series with its very likeable characters plus of course the lovable Lennox.

Read first three books in this series in one weekend. Very fun characters and good mysteries.
