I read this because I'd written a story called "The Time to Height Reflex" that involved a present-day fighter pilot finding himself and his aircraft dealing with 1914-18 War aircraft and someone pointed out that sounded like "Hawk among the Sparrows" which I'd never read. In fact there isn't a lot of similarity but I'd recommend McLaughlin's story rather than mine...
