You can tell it was definitely inspired by the musical and it kind of assumes you’ve seen/listened to it. But it’s a cute feel good story.

The Schuylers are hosting a big party to try to marry the oldest Schuyler sisters, Angelica, Elizabeth, and Peggy, into wealthy families. Colonel Alexander Hamilton is rumored to be incredibly handsome, but has no money to his name. Eliza is surprised to see that he is one of the eight she is too dance with that night. After more than two years, they find each other again in New York, becoming very close. But the Schuyler family is falling on hard times, and Eliza's family needs her to marry rich, and soon.
I loved this take on the Hamilton story and how it was written. It really felt like you were in the story and had traveled back to 1780. I absolutely recommend this book.

For a book so heavily reliant on Hamilton the musical for its success, it bends the characters into heavily unlikable versions of themselves. I wouldn't even be mentioning this if they book didn't take so much from the musical. but it did. From the design of the front cover to the titles of the chapter and everything in between. I expected better, especially from an established author. What I got was bad fanfiction.

Last night I finished listening to Alex and Eliza by Melissa De La Cruz via Libby audiobook. Alex and Eliza is a historical fiction novel about how Alexander Hamilton and Eliza Schuyler met and fell in love. I think it was an interesting novel and definitely gave me Jane Austen feels the way Melissa wrote it. It’s part one of a 3 part series of novels so I’m going to listen to all 3. I really love the way Alex loves Eliza in this book, he respects her wishes and wants her to grow as a person and not just be a wife and mother of his children unlike the other men that were trying to get Eliza’s attention. Also, it makes me so thankful that it doesn’t matter as much now a days what family you are from or how much money you have when you marry someone. I give this novel 4 stars and I recommend it to anyone who loves a historical fiction novel with a love story.

super sweet historically inaccurate tale of the lives of alexander hamilton and eliza schuyler. decided to pick up this series after i fell in love with the musical. i love romance and historical fiction books, so this series was the perfect choice and a nice non-racy read to break from my obsession with bridgerton
