I liked it. I feel so bad for poor Mike though. That kid has a hard life. 2/11

2nd read 5/16--- still so good. It's actually better cause things make more sense the second time around.

Not appreciably lesser in quality than the first book, but since it went over the same ground with no real forward momentum, I’m giving it one less star. Plus, interminable sex scene between the central couple—not what I’m looking for in a horror novel.

Overall, this is a good book. For me, it seemed to get bogged down in the middle, but picked up nicely toward the end.

There are couple of scenes here that I thought were exceptional: a tongue-lashing about a man's view of rape, and a sex scene. Did Jonathan have a woman write these two passages? ☺

There are some really creepy things happening here. Looking forward to the next installment.

Poor Pine Deep. It’s troubles just won’t stay dead. Crow would like to just have a normal life. Val would like to get back to normal and start planning her wedding. Mike, well Mike just wants to survive getting the snot beat out of him every day by his stepdad.
The evil has only just begun in Pine Deep. With Friday the 13th fast approaching and Halloween right around the corner, the demon has just started amassing his army.
Who will die? Who will come join the evil legion of death defying creatures. Is Mike good or bad? Can Crow and Val survive? This second novel of the trilogy only answers some of these questions. I can’t wait for the third book

Ready for the third one, I feel like I'm in a marathon, but I have to know what happens.

Excellent and entertaining follow up to [b:Ghost Road Blues|125965|Ghost Road Blues (Pine Deep, #1)|Jonathan Maberry|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388231808s/125965.jpg|121320]. It adds depth and unexpected directions to the story. My only quibble is that it does feel like the middle of a trilogy that it is. The ending is a bit less satisfying than Ghost Road Blues - feeling more like you are left off in the middle of the story. Don't let that stop you - just know that it is compelling enough that I ordered the Kindle version of the sequel [b:Bad Moon Rising|2314130|Bad Moon Rising (Pine Deep, #3)|Jonathan Maberry|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388195588s/2314130.jpg|45088866] and started reading it right away. Well worth your time.
