Maya is unhappy, but then someone enters her cafe and gives her cryptic advice how to become happier. I didn't like the voice of the book. It feels too much like a self help book, which made it harder for me to loose myself in the story. The book left me feeling annoyed. At least it was short, but I should have given up.

I recently discovered Menna van Praag and have read four of her books. I rated all four 5-stars. Now I’m on a mission to read her entire catalog. I’m not expecting them all to be 5-star books but I sure do enjoy her stories. This is her very first book, self-published in 2008. Although it’s fictional, it’s part memoir and part self-help. After reading her newer works, I can really see how she’s developed into one of my favorite authors.

I was sort of less than thrilled with this book. I kind of feel bad only giving it two stars but it just didn't grab me at all. It was too inspirational and touchy-feely and so on for my tastes, which is a shame because the title is so cute and clever! I'm sure some people would like it but it just wasn't for me.

Unfortunately I didn't particularly like Men, Money and Chocolate. I found it a bit cliché and unbelievable. A lot of time passes in its 211 pages and it made the things that happened less significant. The writing was also too simple for. Furthermore, I liked the message and idea but it hardly connected with me. I think this is partly because I didn't feel like I knew Maya. I knew hardly anything about her so I didn't find myself caring for her.

Overall, it was okay and cute sometimes but I won't be reading it again.

Way too wishy-washy for me and felt like a self help book disguised as fiction. Might suit someone who likes things like starsigns and signs from the universe but not for me at all.
