This book was so intriguing, I couldn’t put it down… until I got to the end. The plot itself is interesting and the author is a a great storyteller. But, it started to get so deeply creepy and demonic, which turned me away. The ending was also so dragged out I was eager to just finish this book.

The House Across the Lake is a thriller about a failed actress who investigates the disappearance of her famous neighbor, who lives in the house across the lake with her beloved husband, Tom.
Casey, the actress, starts to become consumed with finding out why her neighbor, Katherine, vanished. Casey immediately suspects Tom of foul play, but Casey soon finds out that looks can be deceiving and that you should always be careful what you watch for.

The House Across the Lake is my sixth Riley Sager book, so I was very eager to read for this book.

I liked how the beginning was solid and it really told the story of Casey well, while not feeling like to much as once. The author also did a good job of establishing the side characters. We really understood why the characters were important to Casey and why they cared so much about her.

By the middle things get a little bit darker. We learn more about Katherine and Tom for the worse or for the better. I really liked how Tom was written, he felt realistic and I liked the decisions he made.

At the end I was a little annoyed with Casey's behavior, I felt it became very repetitive and a little dramatic. I will say that it did get better but I really wished the personality would have stayed stronger than it did.

The ending is a mixed topic for some but I liked the approach the author took. I didn't really expect this approach from Sager but I do like it better than the ending that I thought was going to happen. Plus, I love a little romance in my Thrillers.

Overall I rated this book four stars. The main reason for this book not being five stars is due to Casey's behavior, I just wished it would have been stronger.

I still would recommend this book to others, I can't wait to continue my Riley Sager Journey.

Meh. Scratched an itch for me in October for spooky season but that's about it. I really enjoyed the writing, and the small amount romance but hated the twist. PREDICTABLE.

Started very slow, then really picked up and got creepy. Interesting twists? But I’m not sure that I believe them (because of how the book was set up). Also found the protagonist pretty in likable / shallowly written. Didn’t love!
