 DEPRESSING.

“Can’t sad things be beautiful?”

Yes… but it still hurts. Booktok made me read this. 4 stars because it was well written but honestly I wish I had skipped this one. I should have known better. From chapter 1 I knew this book was going to hurt and it did. The whole thing was painful, in a beautifully written way. I want to scream into the void and eat a pint of ice cream now.

I originally gave this book 4 stars after reading, but upon reflection - it was poorly written and predictable. I know the whole point is supposed to be about how people grow and change but somethings stay the same but i truthfully couldn't get past the immaturity of the main character. Trying to hard to be quirky and different. I did like the introduction of mental health and family problems that felt very relatable. Overall, I sobbed like a baby at the end but definitely wouldn't rate in my recommended books.. also the tiara?

This one took a while to get through, largely because I knew how it was going to end. A little before the middle, I felt a stagnancy in the novel and just had to set it down and come back to it. But I am so, so glad that I decided to finish it. Autumn is an interesting narrator, honest and inquisitive yet clueless. I like her, but I don’t actually feel that we get to know her that well.

There is so much talk of her mothers depression and The Mothers friendship, but for topics that come up so frequently, I don’t feel as though they are given the depth that they deserve.

A lot more could be said, but I pulled an all-nighter to finish this book, so it’s at least that good. I did become frustrated with the irony (hypocrisy) at the end- Autumn was cheated on, and that is unacceptable, but Finn is cheating on Sylvie, and that is mostly OK.
