An overwhelming read for obvious reasons. Zuckoff accomplishes exactly what he set out to do with this book on 9/11: to preserve the emotions, images, and terror felt by survivors and onlookers, to remember the last moments of loved ones who did not return home, and to provide younger generations and future readers an understanding of the emotional impact of that day.
One book cannot tackle every aspect of 9/11, however. The Pulitzer Prize winning 'The Looming Tower' details the geopolitical path that led to the rise of Osama Bin Laden and his group of extremists. But to expect an all encompassing book on 9/11 is not realistic. Enjoy Zuckoff's book for what it is; a well constructed, well written, and well researched narrative on the terrible events of a beautiful September day that changed the world forever. 5 stars. It's an important book.

Being so young when 9/11 happened, it wasn't something that was explained thoroughly to me at the time or during the rest of my schooling. This book is a must-read for everyone interested in learning more about 9/11, what happened, how it happened, why it happened and how individual people and the nation as a whole were affected.
The book is separated into sections that make it much easier to read since the content of the book can be overwhelmingly heavy at times. The reader is introduced to people who are in some way impacted by what occurs on each of the flights, at the towers or at the Pentagon. In some cases, they are individuals who lost their lives and the story is being retold by a loved one. Other times, they are individuals who lost someone on 9/11 or they are stories of survivors, EMTs, firefighters, police officers, etc. We follow them from what they were doing on 9/10, through the morning of 9/11 and into the start of 9/12 and beyond.
There are specific sections dedicated to each flight, each tower and the Pentagon. I found this extremely helpful so as to not get confused and, more importantly, so I could put the book down in-between sections to process what I read (figuratively speaking since I read this on my computer). As much as you may want to soar through this book, I advise you take it section by section and don't overwhelm yourself. The content is extremely heavy. It will leave you sad, mad, angry, hurt and more.
