A young woman in the 1700s doesn't want the life she is destined to have- married off and never leaving her small village. She flees on her wedding day and in desperation makes an ill planned deal with a god/devil. She lives forever but will never be remembered.

The book goes back and forth through time, covering her 300 year existence and the present, where she has finally found someone who remembers her. But why can Henry remember her?

What defines the human experience? What does it mean to leave your mark? How important is being remembered? What is living?

The beginning was a little slow, but once it picked up it was a fast paced page turner. The ending foe Henry was a little overly meta, but otherwise I found the plot twists surprising and satisfying.

Intoxicating. A fairy tale.
