Addie’s story is sad, yet adventurous. Henry’s is heartbreaking 🥺

Some aspects were a little predictable, but this was a great read especially if you enjoy pondering the philosophy of human life through fantasy novels. 😅

I really enjoyed this book! It is such a unique and interesting concept. My only criticisms were that I would have liked to see Addie react to historical events happening like womens suffrage, the wars etc (some of these things are mentioned but we don't really get to see her thoughts about them). I would have also liked there to be more of a focus on the friendship and family that Addie is missing out on - it is very heavily focused on romance and she just seems to spent all her time having one night stands but doesn't make any effort to connect with people platonically. But other than that I loved it and it was very gripping!

If you’re looking for historical fiction with magical realism and a touch of romance, you will find this beautiful book scratches that itch.

A story about a woman who makes a deal with “the devil.” You travel with her for over 300 years, seeing how she copes with the terms of her deal, and grows.

I literally LOVED this book. It's so mysterious and dark but also inspiring and reflecting.
I literally finished this one at night because I couldn't stop reading!! I think that it leaves the message that even if something ends it remains beautiful and sometimes it's beatiful because it ended.
My favourite character is definitely Luc Who Is the perfect morally grey character...
I cried in the end and I'm not sure if I finished the book or the book finished me.
This one's absolutely a must-read!!!

This was one of the first books I read in a while! It was a very nicely-paced story with a plot that was typically unique to me, and it got me back into reading!! I recommended it to my bsf (who is WAY more of a bookworm than me) and she also loved the book- I would definitely recommend

V.E. Schwab is probably one of my favorite authors now!! I LOVE her writing style like it's so immersive, descriptive, and very fast paced cause the chapters are so short! I think I love her Vicious duology more than this book, especially because I foresaw almost every turning point/conflict/resolution in the story, like my partner spoiled the ending for me but it didn't matter cause I already knew it was going to happen. However, the ending still hit me like a brick even when I expected it and the slow plot (it's a fast read with a slow plot as a heads up) was made up for the immaculate ending!
Anyway, I'm inspired to write three tragic relationship stories from this book alone so thanks V.E. Schwab for that! And if you like dark, romantic, and life-questioning books - and any other books written by V.E. Schwab - then I would highly recommend this book!!

I wish this wasn't the first Schwab book I picked up. It's gonna be a little while before I can try one of her other books, exciting as the other ones sound. I was looking for a clean romance that spanned the centuries, but I was blindsided by the amount of innuendo and sexual coping.

I understand the loneliness that comes with no one being able to remember you. And I understand that you'd try to have some semblance of a relationship anyways. So I guess in hindsight I shouldn't have been surprised that Addie was sleeping around over the centuries, simultaneously looking for shelter and some sense of human connection. But it was too much for my taste. Maybe other people wouldn't consider it explicit, but I have an vivid imagination so repetitive "thrusting" makes me uncomfortable in a book.
