This book was really just very unextraordinary. I think I may have had the wrong mindset going into this book. I was expecting a new adult book and this definitely falls into adult, which isn't really my thing.
I thought the characters were overall pretty bland. There were some funny moments, especially with Owen, but Helen really bored me.
The plot was, while like nothing I've read before, wasn't something I'd ever really want to revisit. It just wasn't really something I'm super interested in.
The writing was decent, but it didn't suck you in.
I don't have a whole lot to say about this book. It wasn't awful, but I certainly wouldn't say that it is very good, and I would only recommend this to someone who feels like they would really like this book.

I find it very hard to rate this book, because I feel like it's only the beginning to a (fantastic) story. I can't wait to read the other 2 books in the series so I can rate them properly!

I thought I would take a chance on this as it was a free read, I am kind of glad I did. It 3.5 stars for me.
Helen, Is blind but don’t let that stop you from reading she is brilliant. She is a little insecure about herself but who wouldn’t be when people are not always kind.
She struggles and shut herself off from everyone and everything.
She is presented with the opportunity to see for the first time by 2 very persistent doctors, Own and Liam.
She needs a ride to the city so if they want to do test and try out the medicine on her they need to get her to the city for her sister’s wedding. The car ride was EPIC well until she opens up but then again Owen is the life of the party so to speak and make thing entertaining.
Yes this has a cliff-hanger but still a good fast-ish read too.

Holy shit. I don't wanna spoil anything but SOMEONE GET ME THE NEXT FUCKING BOOK I SWEAR.
Liam is... So beautifully childish, hot, and sexy and I don't even know what he looks like. Helen is closed off, but she's not insanely closed off to the world. Owen, oh my gosh you are some hilarious man HAHAHHAHA

Helen was born blind and has always been adamant about her independence. When a terrible thing happens to her in her early twenties, she drops out of college and moves away from her family to live alone, away from society. Content with her solitude, she is certainly irritated when a pair of doctors come knocking at her door, offering gene therapy to possibly give her sight.
Hello?! Does this not seem completely unreasonable? She explains how she only ever talks to her mailman and her voice is barely ever used as she doesn't socialize. She is completely wary of strangers, having been fooled by their kindness before. We see Helen as a victim who has understandably built up some serious defenses around her. So why would she openly agree to spill her deepest, darkest secret to someone, regardless of what they just offered to do for her?
Not only that, but Owen spends the entire car ride explicitly talking about pornography! There isn't one sentence, not even one word to show that Helen is the least bit uncomfortable with this. No, the rape victim in the backseat has no objections whatsoever to this sort of talk. And when she does reveal her secret, the boys bicker back and forth like children over who was the least sensitive. Are you serious? The book just left a bad taste in my mouth after that part.
Helen herself is incredibly hot and cold. Almost every interaction with Liam is either hostile or gentle with no in between and almost no consequence. Liam doesn't seem to react much to her insults and obvious dislike, yet he gushes about being such a big fan. It doesn't read like an interesting dynamic and instead left me confused. I felt no chemistry between them and the set-up of "fake wedding date" had me rolling my eyes.
Besides that, it was incredibly predictable. You see the ending coming from the first phone call. I felt nothing for any of the characters and felt that Helen in particular was incredibly inconsistent. Don't even get me started on her sister. I will not be continuing the series for any reason.

Knowing this was a freebie, I could handle the typos and tense mistakes (though the constant moments where it says something along the lines of, "Liam looked my way" drove me NUTS). However, this book really ended up rubbing me the wrong way. The event in the beginning of the book was so horrible that Helen felt she couldn't tell her family and she moved to a different state to be alone. She has obvious trust issues, for good reason.
