The only thing Thomas remembers when he wakes up in the lift is his name. He's surrounded by strangers—boys who have similarly lost their memories. A infinite, ever-changing maze lies beyond the Glade's tall stone walls. It's the only way out—and no one has ever survived. Then a girl appears. The first girl ever. And the message she sends is dreadful.

One unique feature of this series is that the first book does not immediately describe the entire world building. You're a little perplexed when you first start reading the book, and it appears that you're expecting a great surprise, which is fine. However, there are always limitations. Ironically, despite the fact that you were expecting a massive shock, the twists were more predictable.

This book didn't bother me all that much—in fact, only one thing bothered me. Telepathy requires some work—a lot of work. I get the overall point, but it was not clearly established. This book is nearly 400 pages long, which is short for sci-fi novels, but you should know something about the characters. However, I did not. I didn't know Teresa very well—I'm sure I'll learn more about her in the future book—but as the sole female Glader, I expected something more delicate and exquisite.

Really easy, basic writing and enough happening every few chapters you keep you interested. Super super needlessly long in some parts but not bad. I can see myself liking this a decade ago when it came out. It actually lines up with the movie well (I saw the movies multiple times before reading this). But tbh I thought the movie was better bc it kept things succinct and made it clearer

Wow. Ok. So. This book. I have never read anything like this before. Ever. It was dystopian at its richest, in a world that was, not realistic, but something you could see making sense in a twisted way. You could see Dashner had put some thought into the book and the characters.

Thomas was an interesting mc. I read this book a while ago, but I can still remember his loyalty and his  protectiveness of his friends. I also remember how he risked himself for a friend that was thought beyond saving. I read this book a good 4-5 months ago, but I still remember admiring his courage and bravery. He could be a bit strong willed at times, a little impulsive, sometimes letting his emotions take the better of him, but he always done everything with a good intention.

So what happened? Thomas "awakes" in the elevator to complete darkness and absolutely no memory. From then on, he arrives at the Glade, the home, or in other words, prison, to the 20 odd Gladers, the boys who live there. The whole story is basically about Thomas and his new friends trying to get out the Glade through the huge seemingly never ending maze that surrounds them.

It is a good, nail biting read. It is not one of my favourites, but I did really like it.

Thank you for reading my review xxx 📚😊

Maze Runner is one of the best books I’ve ever read. You get to follow and solve everything with the characters, and you feel as if you’re really there.

Thomas wakes up in a pitch black elevator, shooting upwards. As it opens he sees boys crowding around him, only to find they’ve been trapped here for 2 years. No way out, and their hope fleeting.
But things all start to change when the first girl to ever arrive in the maze arrives the next day with a dark message.

Is WICKED actually good? Why has there never been a girl here until now? Is this maze able to be solved, or will they eventually all be picked away by the terrifying Grievers that haunt the ever changing maze.
