The time comes when you think to yourself, "Why am I still reading YA? All it does is annoy and frustrate me!" <- Here lies the remnant of the review I was going to write for this book before it started to become bearable. It's not the fault of the "queer King Arthur in space" book that I happen to think "queer [insert classic here] in space" is painfully cliché and overdone. ("Why did you read it then?" you may ask. My friend gave it to me for my birthday, and I try to be open-minded in my reading.) If we take that out of the equation, the book isn't bad. It's weird with pacing at times, and without prior knowledge of the King Arthur legend the reader will find themselves somewhat confused for the first half of the book (and with regards to certain matters, some time after as well -- granted, it's because the knowledge the characters themselves have is limited, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating). Other than that, my only complaint is about a facet of queer YA that I realize is a staple of the genre, but if I have to read another gently euphemized sex scene ("he put his hand in the unnamed place between his waistband and his zipper" on his penis, you mean? We're not on TikTok) or two 18-year-olds saving the world by proudly making out in front of a crowd, I will throw hands.

What a delightful and unique retelling!! There were points in the story where things felt rushed, but overall it was a great read. I can’t wait to read the next book!

For some reason, this book kind of dragged on. It had some amazing concepts, some progressive characters and all of that, but something felt slow and clunky about it unfortunately. It reads like fan-fiction if you've seen the show 'Merlin', so perhaps that's why it was slow and clunky (because of my own predispositions and expectations). Parts were very entertaining, I won't say which, no spoilers, but other sections were so contrived that it brought me out of the universe in disbelief and it kind of took away from everything that 'was' working. The ending left it on a high note.

I really liked this book but it takes you for a ride. It starts out light hearted and comical. It gets a little steamy. It jerks at your heart strings, and then it reveals that its part of a series.

Super queer, anti-capitalist, and inclusive in so many ways, it's just a (usually) fun book quirky and weird as you'd expect from Arthur in space.
