A great second instalment in the stories of the Widdershins Sisters, filled with magic, adventure and a whole load of love.

Of course I absolutely the three characters of Betty, Fliss and Charlie who always seem to be the centre of trouble. They are resourceful, brave and funny to read about as well as incredibly loyal to one another which just makes this book so heartwarming. I just love the three of them so much. Of course, we also get some new characters thrown into the mix such as Willow and Spit who are just wonderful to read about. Both of them just add something to the story and are fully formed characters too. They are there for a reason and not only do they fulfil their purpose but they also have arcs of their own. Every character in this book is just so brilliant and well written.

The plot was really cool, I loved how it was based on an old tale and how the story itself was woven into the book at some points. I thought that really gave the book an extra dimension, especially considering how similar that plot was to the story in a good way. It was so much fun to read the story and see it all unfold because Michelle Harrison really knows how to tell such brilliant stories. Just like the first book, it was full of magic and familial love and I just loved it so much!!!

Michelle Harrison is an incredible writer. She knows not only how to write well-developed characters but also a brilliant storyline on top of creating such a brilliant and whimsical world for it all to happen in. Not only can I not wait to see what the next book has in store but I can also not wait to see what else Michelle Harrison comes up with.

8.29 using the CAWPILE rating system.

Fliss, Betty and Charlie go on an adventure again to help an escaped prisoner using magic, their imagination and old folk tales to help everyone. They encounter pirates and witches.

Michelle Harrison has provided whimsy again and I loved it such a good second book and I’m excited to carry on with the series.
