Disclaimer: I only read part 1, the academic study.

This book is well-recommended for anyone who is looking at gaining a deeper understanding into certain practices of the early Quanzhen (全真 - "Way of Complete Perfection") school of Daoism. It is well researched and thought out, with footnotes providing further reading, sources, as well as notes clarifying meaning. While it is not easily accessible, being a heavily academic book, it is still a fountainhead of information. I would advise it to be read after Stephen Eskildsen's The Teachings and Practices of the Early Quanzhen Taoist Masters but it is a must-read if you are interested in the Quanzhen school, or Daoist historical practices in genearl.
