I did like it but it wasn't one I just couldn't put down.
I didn't really connect with the characters .

I wanted something atmospheric for spooky season, and i got everything I wished for and even more!
Liked how the landscape played a big part in the story and the spooky vibes. Didn't expected a lovestory, but actually was totally in for it. And then Mary Yellan? Loved the girl.

"I haven't washed for three days and I've been living off potatoes." Jem Merlyn - a man after my own heart.

Just sneaking up to an 8/10

A very dark portrait of Cornwall, having been recently to Bodmin which is a lovely and friendly place it is funny to see such a gothic rendering of the landscape. du Maurier always tells a great story, although I clocked the bad guy a mile away.

Let me tell you: Mary Yellan is slaying 👏 I loved every sassy moment of hers and she is one of my favourite heroines in literature by far. On the back cover the book is described as "A perfect fusion of gothic romance and a young woman's rite of passage" as well as "A brilliantly executed thriller" and I couldn't agree more. This book had me in its grip from start to finish and I loved it. Daphne du Maurier never disappoints me!
