Okay. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. This book was just not it. It was SO messy. The beginning didn’t make any sense. Hope was mad at him for 13 YEARS??????????? Also miscommunication tropes are my very least favorite thing ever. And also, he just left? He just LEFT??? At one point he said he felt like he had to, like she deserved better. Why? Did something happen? How does a perfect relationship make somebody want to up and leave and join the Marines and cut off all contact?????? That doesn’t happen. And then he just never talked to her again FOR 13 YEARS?????

Don’t even get me started on the mom and cancer thing. Hit close to home and made me uncomfortable but suddenly she’s on hospice has maybe 1-2 months left to live and suddenly they get married (without a 30-day marriage license) and then randomly you find out it’s 2 months later and what do ya know? MOM IS STILL ALIVE!!! Hoooowwwwww. Oh it’s because babies are being born because yes HOPE IS PREGGOOOOO.

Gosh. This really just misses the mark on so many things. The ending was unfinished and way too random. And that one random chapter on Rebecca? Why?

I received an arc of this via Book Sirens.

I love a second chance romance so reading Hope and Lucas’ story was a lovely read. I liked getting to know all of the group and Sparky made an excellent addition! A nice, quick romance read. There were a few spelling errors, however this didn’t hugely impact my enjoyment of the book.

𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: second chance, he falls first, childhood sweethearts, small town

𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀: PTSD, medical content

I liked this book and how both characters had to overcome their insecurities to finally have the much-desired happy ending.

Lucas is a former military man who now works as a mechanic. He and Hope were childhood sweethearts, but Lucas broke her heart when he left for the army without telling anyone, including her.

Hope is a prestigious doctor and all she wants in her professional career is to bring children into the world. She returned to the her childhood town to take care of her ill mother. What she didn't expect is that Lucas is also back in town.

Little by little they start to reconnect and form a "little" couple again, while still having the insecurities from the past. It seemed to me that Hope quickly forgave the fact that Lucas hurt her, and that Lucas should have groveled more. But even so, they begin to solve their problems and soon they are that sweet and funny couple.

The Wrench is an amazing, spicy and funny book, and you should give Lucas and Hope a chance to tell you their story.

Thank you J.L Bowman for the opportunity to read this amazing book in exchange for an honest review.

The Wrench was enjoyable and the characters were relatable. It is the second book in the Campbell series and can be read as a standalone. I truly loved the banter between the families and the warmth of the story. I will definitely continue to follow this series and look forward to seeing where JL Bowman takes us next!

I LOVED everything about this book. The complexity of the characters is done well and thoroughly. Hope and Lucas's story is a fantastic read. High angst was great for me. Lucas is a swoon worthy book boyfriend.
