This second series feels like an elegy, which makes me very nervous about how it is all going to turn out.

Builds to what should be an interesting conclusion to one of my most beloved epic fantasy series but this entry itself was a little clunky and convoluted.

Another excellent Osten Ard novel from Tad Williams. I hesitate to write to much for fear of spoiling anything, as this is the middle book of a planned trilogy. Williams is masterful at laying out the threads in Book 1, and by the close of Book 2 we’re left with a tapestry—one that is incomplete, to be sure—but the form of Williams’ tale has definitely taken shape.
I enjoyed some parts more than others, as one does with any story. The court intrigue in Nabban was the highlight, with both Viyeki’s and Eolair’s arcs coming in at close seconds.
The last scene of Empire of Grass is, in my opinion, masterful. It is rare that a book ends on a cliffhanger for a CHARACTER as opposed to the reader, and I enjoyed it immensely.

Tad Williams always writes such strong female characters. Ones that do not match most stereotypes. His characters are very human.
I like the direction that this book is going.
