The third in [author: Tanya Huff]'s Smoke series, which is in turn a spin-off of her Blood series. You don't really need to have read that, though; I've only read the first of the Blood books, and I'm following these just fine. More than fine—I adore these books. The first ([book: Smoke and Shadows]) was a little slow getting going, but they just keep getting better. And if you like humorous, meta, slashy sci-fi/fantasy adventures, then these books are tailor-made for you, man. The main character, Tony, is a PA on a Vancouver-produced vampire detective TV show, but what he knows and the rest of the people in the production don't is that all that supernatural stuff is real, and he has the somewhat awkward relationship with his vamp ex-lover to prove it. What I'm really loving about this series is that as supernatural things keep happening to Tony, his friends and co-workers don't stay oblivious, but become more and more involved; there's a great sense of community and family with this wacky little production company, and it's just terrific. Plus, the characters are hilarious, there's tons of meta-humor, and the slow build in the relationship between Tony and Lee, one of the stars of the show, is fantastic. Okay, and if that doesn't sell you: this third volume includes a threesome in the solution to save the world. World-saving threesomes: how can you not be all over that? *g*

How did I forget to review the Tony series? Loved this one and best of all it ended in the epic kiss. Awwww.
I'll say the Tony series enchanted me more that the original Henry Fitzroy series.

Demons again! But this time we have a person who is a demongate. Definitely different. This was the last book in this series. So no more Henry Fitzroy to read about. :(

I really enjoyed this series, as well as the one before it. This book was probably my second favorite in the series (smoke and mirrors being the best.)
oh and I gotta say, I LOVED the last page!

Partially ported over from my now-abandoned Goodreads:
A really solid end to the Smoke series, I think this one met the expectations I brought with me from Book 2, although that one remains my favourite.
The tension is just as well-crafted as in Mirrors, and Tony's character development is well-rounded and satisfying, though not world-shattering (since it's not a main focus).
The magic system solidifies in this final novel as Tony gets to grips with his ability, and Huff's interpretation of wizardry is innovative and fascinating- there's some details she includes that I haven't ever seen before, and I loved it.
If I've got one complaint, it's that the resolution for all the (very Queer!) sexual tension was a bit quick. Then again, it's made up for by how much of that sexual tension there was! There was also a lot of sex in this one, which I didn't quite come prepared for, but given the cover art, and the sex-demon premise... yeah, that's on me.
Demonic sex-appeal-powers are used a little too much for my taste. Some of the action also happens off-page, which makes the pacing a bit squiffy- could maybe have been streamlined some more, but it's not as though the book feels bloated, so it's acceptable nonetheless.
A really great end to a series I enjoyed immensely, this book wrapped it up pretty well, and I'm glad.

Graphic: Sexual content
This book has a lot of sex in it. It's not actually pornographic, but it's fairly explicit nonetheless.alizy's review against another edition

I'm sad this is the last book in the series. I'm not sure I loved it more than Smoke and Mirrors, but definitely loved it. I love how much Tony as a character has grown from the original series. Definitely reading the rest of the books that I can from this author.
