This one felt especially slow moving to me, it took easily 300-400 paged to feel like we were really making headway in the plot. Or should I say plots because there were so many going on I could hardly keep track. I don't love how this author writes her female characters and it really saddened me that it felt like Xhex SA trauma was a bit of a plot device to just connect her and JM. Also the awful weeks of torture and grape but then immediately full on banging made me eye roll a bit.

Don't get me started on Blay and Qhuinn...

This was my first audiobook in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series and it's probably going to be my last. I'm not sure how much of my rating comes from the story/plot and how much comes from the narration, but I'll just say this is my first read of the series and so in some ways the attitudes feel dated to me. Listening to the book made things that I might have found passively cringe while reading with my eyes felt several times worse as a listen.

I love this series! John and Xhex story is so painful to read. I love both of these characters and found it hard to read some of the emotional pages.
